Why
to go
Les Arcs is divided up into 3 large areas named after
their town altitudes 1600, 1800 and 2000 offering
a huge variety of terrain for all levels.
After
a big snowfall Les Arcs is close to heaven with an
abundance of steep descents, chutes and rolling open
fields.
In the upper areas of 2000 around Auigulle Rouge the
terrain has some of the most extreme inbounds routes
you will find anywhere. Each area is generally at
its steepest in the higher areas and then opens up
to wide open bowls and cruising runs.
The
nightlife at each resort is relatively quiet with
the most lively being 1800. In 2003 a totally new
resort town section was added just below 2000 and
is called 1950.
Do not miss
A ride to the top of the Auigulle Rouge for the view
and then your selection of route down can be as gentle
or extreme as you wish.
The speed skiing course “ski de vitesse”
is worth a look as competitors race down the slope
at frightening speeds. The adjacent mogul course will
test the very best.
Getting there
Bourg Saint Maurice is major town at the base of the
mountain. All trains and buses arrive and depart from
there and it is just another short bus or taxi ride
to the mountain or the Arc-en-Ciel funicular train
which leaves from behind the SNCF station goes to
1600.
Geneva, Switzerland, is the nearest international
airport150 km (93 miles) away with connecting trains
and buses.
Hot Tip
The resort town areas are closed to all transport
and are isolated from each other. Off snow access
between each resort is by resort operated bus or private
taxi. Make sure you are back in your valley area before
the last lift or you will need to catch road transport
back to your area.
