Val
d'Isere
Why
to go
Val d’Isere is one half of the area Espace Killy,
sharing its lift pass with the connected Tignes. The
combined resorts boast over 11,000 hectares of impressive
terrain, offering unlimited possibilities for all
standards.
The
Majority of the terrain is above the tree line with
huge off piste open slopes all easily accessible from
the lift system, providing access to the kind of runs
which are usually only found after a long hike or
with the aid of a helicopter.
The
lift system is efficient with highlights being the
Funival (train which travels through the mountain)
and the new addition of a “gondola cable car
hybrid” (Bellevarde Face High Speed Gondola)
both depositing skiers and boarders at the top of
Rocher De Bellevarde which enables access to half
of Val d’Isere’s terrain and also the
link to Tignes.
Val d’Isere’s town is a beautiful traditional
alpine village with an attractive blend of old and
new architecture. The nightlife and dining options
are abundant and can be as lively or laid back as
you wish.
Do
not miss
A run down the Olympic downhill run "The Face"
were you can stop half way for a beverage or lunch
in a sun chair before negotiating the steep lower
section.
Terrain Park for some insanely large jumps.
Getting there
Geneva is the nearest Airport 180km away and around
3 hours.
Train from across Europe to Bourg St Maurice, then
by bus it is 1 hour or 45 mins by taxi.
Val d'Isere provides a free bus called "Train
rouge" which services the entire area and is
handy for the outlying villages, however everything
in the main village section is within a short walk.
Hot
Tip
The Manchet Express Chair after a dump can be quiet
early (due to its hidden aspect) and the right hand
side (looking down) can give you long thigh burning
powder turns all the way to the valley floor.
